Topic: Custom Buttons - is this possible?

Ok so still working my way through VDJ8 - so far so good for me !

Does anyone know if there is a way to put custom buttons on the 'Top Section' (Where the clock and cpu etc are) or add another bar just underneath sort of like a favourites bar (I would assume this would need to be done in xml?)

The problem I have is I use a 4 deck skin and on this layout you can only see 2 custom buttons and as far as I can work out there is no way (or room to add more)

I would have loads of uses for different button to speed things up - just wish there were more of them.

Is this possible?

no at the default skin,

but there a some new v8 skins that might fit your needs ;-)
 
It would be possible in the default skin but you would have to do some serious modifications.

As RobRoy says there are some skins to offer more custom buttons. The one shown above is Altern8 (I think).
 
Thanks Rob - the pic posted it was I meant but I'm using 4 decks so that's not viable for me apart from the buttons at the top. I'm wondering now if I can edit the current skin I'm in (VDJ8 default 4 decks) to add in my own custom space for a bar maybe push the browser down a bit and stick it between the bottom 2 decks.

I'm sensing a few Google searches coming on ! lol

Quite close Dan...it is a skin you might know....it is called "Black Sheep"...;-) ;-)

ha ha now I know why you quoted Dan above - it's his skin !!

impressive Dan - least I know what I want can actually be done now - just a case of working out how to do it. I've just google'd some skin creators / editors so guess what I'm gonna be doing to day !

Ok so some progress has been made as per the pic
I managed to create some space for some custom buttons (between Deck 3 & 4 and the Browser)

I'm thinking if I simply copy a group from the XML code, rename it and position it in the space created it should work ?? is that viable or is there a better way to do it.
 
Do you need all 6 hot cues? if not take 3 from each of the bottoms decks and change to xml this way you dont have to add any button

Yes, that exactly what you need to do.
Some tips.
- the name="..." that the group has makes no difference.
- You will probably need to change the numbers of the custom buttons action to custom_button x , where x could be a number from 1 to n
- You can have action="deck y custom_button x" or simply "custom_button x". If you specify a deck number (y) the button will only apply to that deck. If not it will apply to the selected deck.

Ok so just an update on this project - I finally managed to work things out by trial and error but in the main with a lot of help from they guys on here, Robroy, DJdad, GroovinDJ amongst others - thank you all so much.

What I ended up with is shown below but the gist of what I've done is:-

Increased the Font size on the cue point information and move the text lower down into the wave a bit
Changed the wave colours to the same hex number so they stay bright even if not 'active' (I was struggling to see them on the default system)
Created some space above the browser panel and inserted 16 custom buttons

so all in all I'm happy with it thus far - I would really welcome any feedback on this skin - If you want the profile just let me know
 
Similar to how I modded V7 (but neater by you) Large cue text is one of my mods too but I used text dy to shift it a considerable amount left (I sometime put break info as cue names and it's useful to see it before the event)
 
thanks loco - that's actually not a bad idea shifting the cue names over a bit - I may just alter it a bit with that in mind ! I'm also wondering whats the limit number of cue points in VDJ8? I know in 7 it was 9
 
10 Visible on the short wave in V7 on the big wave I think there is no limit (nor on the short wave with V8)

*Checked* I just assigned hot_cue 4000 with script and it showed up on both waves.
