I'm building a HID controller and it's going pretty good, this is a Mark 1 and it has 128 buttons and 48 * 8 bit pots.
I'm looking for inspiration for novel human input methods, so supposing you had an electronics nerd locked in your cellar, what would your custom controller have on it?

@drzinc spinning platters I am working on but I am going for LOCKED drive, I'm collaborating with a guy on realist scratching on a recycled HDD platter, and we have 3 options, a wheel on the disc (easiest but it doesn't look pretty) IR reflection (questionable resolution as of yet) and IR through disc (best results but tricky to fabricate)

you could fit a hi res optical encoder onto a Technics sl1200
or maybe one on the platter and one on to an optically monitored slip mat
you would then have the turntable speed and the slip mat speed and could calculate the difference between the two ?

@sureview yes mate that is the way I want to go, a reflection based system on a 12inch platter would be good for resolution, 16 bit would be no problem, as it goes though I am the grasshopper and my coding sensei wants to recycle HDD platters.

I just finished this and have it mapped so one side is effects one side is samples and there is a 16 button section for clip bank for my video effects with built in video with audio samples. In version 8 I read that I can use unlimited sample and cue points and they are all going to be mapped and set up and this is going to be on top of my regular 3 dj controllers
rack and stack them..

I would just want my Dj-We Go to have an XLR output and a booth output as well. The "perfect" size controller.

Impressive tycoon, I'm presuming that is MIDI, I think I have the HID report space to replicate that many inputs, (unless those buttons are velocity based)
I'm now trying to get 128 byte output (my original set up + 32 16 bit inputs)

I have an idea for fairly accurate scratching similar to option 2 of yours, there are a few old harddrive platter projects, but they are all dead wheels, I intend to power the wheel, position a free spinning encoder pattern on the top (like a 45 would be) and the optical pick up over hanging (like a stylus would)
I'll have to test what kind of torque response I'll get if I fit a 7''/10''/12'' platter.
Can I ask anyone how is building a device for recommendations for reasonable cost, reasonably priced parts, (arcade buttons, pots, sliders etc etc)
