Can VDJ reproduce the looproll effect? IE - micro loops where the track continues to play while looping, and the track continues where it would have been when teh micro loop is stopped?

yes you can do it in vdj through the use of plugins that can be downoaded from this website. You will need to have a registered copy of vdj pro full or basic though.
"loop & roll" is my favorite as it is not at all glitchy, but "rollit" can adjust the pitch of the roll, and it can be linked in an effect chain which is awesome, and "beatmasher_single" can sync the roll to the playing track and is the easiest to use as you dont need to map it to a controller for full function, "DJM700 roll" has an inbuilt HP/LP filter, "Roll" is the most basic... they are all good in their own right.

Cool - that's very reassuring if I DO go Pro. Can I create my own effects like these for use with the VDJ Home Edition?

All the roll plugins above are build specifically for vdj, I have never been able to find a good vst replacement for a roll, try "instajungle" on your system although it is buggy on mine... I think you can only use vst's while the pro trial is activated...
Also you mentioned you were a djdecks user, I believe you can upgrade to vdj8 for free if you purchased djdecks within three years of the announcement date, it's a small fee it you had djdecks prior to that, however that price is as yet undisclosed.
