话题: Mixing Industrial Metal/ Dubstep.....

由于该帖子已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

Hi forum. I've dedicated the past year and a half to learning to DJ a bit, not for gigs, but personal enjoyment/ creativity. I've gained so much

knowledge and still have miles to go, to say the least. I've tried my hand at mixing all kinds of electronic music from House, Dub, D&B etc. as

well as hip hop, trip hop and all the other 'hops." lololol I am really at that point though, where I want to start to think about developing "my

style." I find my interest and love of the genre leaning towards Industrial Metal (think, M. Manson, r. Zombie, the new Korn stuff, Lords of Acid,

KMFDM) and also Dub Step, particularly the new stuff coming out by likes of Skrillex, etc., mashing the two genres up a bit in my

opinion.....Question, is there anyone out there with experience/ a love of playing these genres? I would luv any advice you could offer as far as

your creating playlists, transitions, crossing the genres "in-set," etc....Thank everybody, I hope to hear back... =D

Hey Jusblaze246,

I think its a very doable combination. The fun thing with dubstep is that it actually appeals to non-EDM crowds as well. And especially the industrial thing is very dark, so can some dubstep be.

I think the best way to start on this is to start listening to what other people do. I've looked at my mixcloud contacts and there are a few that might interest you.

I did some experiment combining dubstep with other industrial like genres, but the first half of the mix has way too many errors http://i.mixcloud.com/C1lWd nevertheless it could give you some idea. Nowadays I combine mostely psybient and psytrance with dubstep as in http://i.mixcloud.com/CBEASo or http://i.mixcloud.com/C3ov9

But I guess the thing is just to try. Make sure you pick songs of the same key and dont overstretch the tempo difference to much. Try flipping genres on a drop, or add up on the drop. And look out for vocals mixing too much.

Get a mixcloud account and keep us informed on the tries!! Would love to hear the result!

Can you define that for me, please? I have started mixing the past year or 2, mobile DJ being the main setting of my side buisness. How ever, I have a yearly gig that I can do a full set, and I am working on doing more then just matching some songs. Since I do not hang around with a bunch of DJ's, the lingo and terms are not as fluent.

You'll love this video, its silly but does very much define what 'The Drop' is:

Other examples in my own stuff..

http://i.mixcloud.com/CBEASo on 18:20 .. just listen 20 seconds ahead of it. Note the drum on that track that is actually a regular double rock bassdrum

:'''-D oh, that made my eyes water. Great vid to demonstrate, and add humor to my day. Thank you!
So, the add up is what you were doing with the vocals right before the drop, like building up the tensioin?

The trance like synthesizer is the first record, the moaning and vocals is the second record building up to its drop, the moment the drop slams in you either fully kill the first record, or, in case of metal, you might just ADD at that moment a heavy guitar chord. Just make sure you are also in sync with the structure of the song, ie.. don't let it drop in somewhere halfway a chorus, but on the start of the chorus.
