话题: Another CD Player Timecode thread. Beginner HELP - Page: 1

由于该帖子的部分内容已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

I know there have been dozens of threads posted, but none of them have helped me clearly understand how to set up timecodes with the CD's burnt from this site in Virtual DJ Pro 7. As mentioned I have Pro, Im using a Hercules MK4 MIDI controller as my 2 channel mixer and a Numark NDX 400 as my right deck CD Player. I do not have any idea how to play MP3's on the Timecode instead of the timecode sound. Also I dont know how to play the MP3's over the timecode so that I can scratch them. And as you can see VDJ 7's configuration menu is different than the one that was talked about in those old threads. Thanks

I do not know how to switch my MK4 from Line to Phono for my CD Player connection (MK4 doesnt have a switch) Also when I go to the config screen it shows a box, not a bunch of swirling rings.

Already tried that, mine is showing a box, not circles.

Also, I switched it to phono, and now it shows a weird rectangular shape thats partially filled in.

Well for starters Phono is for turntables not CDJ's so switch that back to line. If you have green squares istead of circles your signal is way to loud. Go to "Timecoe config" and turn your gain down. Also check under the "debug"-option that "RIAA-correction" is unchecked. You don't need that with CD's.

it is one of two things, (I can't remember which) but you need to unput a stereo signal for timecodes to work, so make sure you have two inuts for each deck, second it may be that you have the gain too high, (i think this is the reason) just turn the input gain down in control panel in windows

Gain is to high or ou use PHONO INPUTS for LINE SIGNAL.

Just to much level ;-)

Yes, the gain is too high and maybe you cant adjust it only by the gain knob. I see the knob at low levels and you still has a squared waveform.
Hercules MK4 has the inputs levels defined by software instead hardware, this is the reason why you cant find a switch. Please check the mk4 user guide and go to inputs section.
Once you set the inputs to phono, they are in saturation. Remember to check the Numark outputs level to set the mk4 inputs properly. I believe Numark DJ players has boosted outputs, but I am not sure about this.
And also, there are two different kinds of timecode signal to download, I think you must choose the pro grade level, which is lowered by -14 dB.

I've tried switching it to phono and the other setting, didn't work. I think the output levels are too high, cause gain is already as low as it gets. If anyone knows how to adjust this on the CD Player or the Computer it would be greatly appreciated. I will fool around with it, and see if I can change anything. And I have sets of both Pro and Consumer CD's, I even downgraded to consumer thinking it would help.

Have you read the manual for both the cdj's and the Hercules?? Maybe check out the Hercules forums. I'm surprised DJ Phatso hasn't chimed in yet.....
I would unplug EVERYTHING and go back through step by step, slowly. There's gotta be something your missing.

Good Luck

Theres not too much to start over from. (I did revert back to factory settings on V-DJ but it didn't help much). I guess I'll have to wait two months until I get my cheap 2 channel and another NDX 400. I wish I knew of a way to change the out put from the MIDI controller or the NDX 400.

I think I didnt make myself clear, or you already done what I wrote about input changes.

Check your mk4 inputs settings to pro line level or boost line level as shown and after this, set the gain knob at VirtualDJ timecode config properly. I dont know the output levels from NDX40 (boosted, my suspect), but I believe one of these options will be the right one once with line levels you still have saturation.

One tip: restart the computer everytime you set a change at hercules control pannel... it may sounds weird but believe me, sometimes a simple restart makes all the difference.

The consumer signal level is too loud, and if your NDX has boosted outputs the sound becomes louder and you will experience inputs saturation. Please be sure to download the pro grade timecode signal, wich is 14dB lower than consumer.

The worst scenario for you is is: after a computer restart, your mk4 is set to boosted line, VirtualDJ gain level is set to minimum and pro level timecode signal is playing BUT the squared waveform is stil there.

Then, edit the timecode signal to extremely lower levels, with Soundforge, Audacity or any other audio editor.

Hope it helps.

This is all I can get, after I\'ve edited it in Audacity and done the other stuff, so Im stuck like this until I can get a 2 channel mixer in 2 months.

Now try adjusting the 'left-right' and 'phase' until you get a perfect circle. Also post a picture of the debug screen as well please.
