I wouldn't give them 100 songs, or even 1 song. I would direct them to websites where they could choose to join a subscription service and build an archive of their own. Why on earth would you even consider giving away your archive? My archive would cost over $20,000 to buy on Itunes. If a bar owner wanted that archive, you can bet your ass the only way they are getting it is by giving me 51% ownership of the business itself. (that means I would have the controlling percentage of the business, e.g. I would own it.)

Myself? I wouldnt.. but I dont know exactly Nesto's circumstances.. Some bars do provide a significant amount of the DJ's music.. So maybe his "archive" isnt really 'worth' that much or is partially paid for by the bar..
he also mentioned he needs a temp replacement every once in awhile.. If he refused to at least provide the "temp" with at least some music, the manager might decide to hire another FT DJ.. cutting Nesto's hours in half..

that would be wrong, the bar manager cant reduce the hours for not allowing a temp to use his collection. if a temp is needed and it becomes up to the FT DJ to find said temp, then would the FT DJ not hire a temp that they knew and trusted?
if this is the case then the temp would, if i had to choose one, have his own archive. or be so well know to me that he could be trusted with my archive.
however, any temp worthy of a slot belonging to the FT DJ should without a doubt have to be of equal standards thus bring me back to he would have his own archive.
if the club does not have an archive of its own that is popular , then thats their problem. it, in my opinion, is down to the temp or the club to provide the archive, not the FT DJ.
bar manager reduces hours due to the FT DJ being causious of someone pirating "his" "paid for" collection = Legal letter up the rear end of the bar manager.
ultimatly, if the bar manager did do that, he is actually blackmailing you to commit fraud/copyright theft.
also, if the temp did steal your collection and he got found to be using it illegally, then would he hesitate to pass the buk and give your name as the person who let him copy it.
theres a lot more to this i have noticed as the thread has progressed.
bottom line is still "dont do it" at the end of the day. and you have a great legal standing if hours are reduced or you are dismissed for not commiting an illegal activity.

What is it with people asking for your music collection. Getting this all the time now. People place no value on music anymore since you could just download it. Now if they grew up paying $30 for one song to spin...

Internet DJ's don't have any idea what the worth is, so therefor treat it accordantly

Do you mean you want to password protect the hard drive and assign play permission to your colleague? I recommend you to try USB copy protection software, it allows you to set a password for your drive and you can assign only play permission to other users and prohibit the copy permission to others. If you need more information about this program, you can visit here: http://www.kakasoft.com/usb-copy-protect

Let\'s stop this crazy talk right now. No, no, no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,no,No. No you can\'t use my hard drives. No, you can\'t get a copy of my hard drives. No, you can\'t have DVDs with my music on them. What planet are these people from? You should not even have a thought in your mind, not even a remote possibility, to let anyone use your hard drives. As one of the guys said, would you let him use your wife. To me, same thing. One more thing, No,no,no,no,no,no,no. I can\'t even believe we are having this conversation.
Could I just make your text with CAPSLOCK !!
You get PAID when working and you will buy new songs for next gig...why doesnt the other Dj do the same ?

Ok is there a way to rent your HD out and protect it from people copping songs off it?

Not a good idea ... You might as well be giving them a copy and or your DJing gigs. Your music is like your personality as a DJ I suggest you guard it and never lend it to anyone.
