Hi,
I have my pre-load video settings set to Infinite and last night I was experiencing a lag when loading a video file.
My preview screen for video just showed a black screen for about 5 seconds before eventually showing the video.
I'm guessing this is because the video files are being loaded into memory because of the settings above.
I have 4GB of memory in my gaming laptop.
I want to know what the settings mean when it states "Don't pre-load files when bigger than xx mn" and also what impact this setting would have if the figure was lowered.
Also is there a recommended setting for modern disk drives as I am guessing this will all depend on read access speeds.
Thank you.

It means : above the defined value, it will read directly on the Hard drive instead of RAM ("direct streaming") so it's longer to access data but can be safer sometimes.
As usual, there is the performance/quality ratio (like return/risk in finances)
In fact, when you have all your sound samples in RAM, it's faster to jump in the song as the sound is already decoded (mp3 to wave) and RAM is faster than a HDD (so better for loops, cues, ...)

yes thanks for the info.
I think what threw me was the wording in the panel.
It should read "Don't pre-load files when bigger than xx mb"
and not
"Don't pre-load files when bigger than xx mn"
I was wondering if "mn" was a magic formula.
Thanks again.

no it's well "mn" as for minutes. In fact, this "time" value (for human understanding) is converted in "samples" value (sound samples) as VirtualDJ works in "samples" value

ahhh right I stand corrected.
mn got lost in translation - in the UK its usually stated as mins and not mn.
Thanks again - all clear now.

it's usually mins as far as i know here in the US as well, but sometimes you get a bit of programmers personal idioms when you get software. Not sure if it's regional as VDJ comes from over by you all or not but it could be the programmer thought mn was popular or it could be that 4 chars was too many for that option on smaller res screens.
