First thanks for the VirtualDJ Free for home...Very nice program
Am I correct in assuming that its not possible to monitor with a headphone? The comparison list shows headphone support but when I try to configure the sound output it doesnt seem to accept it.
Thanks
Bill

Home FREE is limited software and only supports the following configurations for pre-listening to music using headphones:
(1) If you are using a desktop PC with a 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound card buit-in, you can use the front and rear outputs of this for master and headphones. Plug stereo amplified speakers into the front output socket and a pair of headphones into the rear output socket.
(2) If you are using a laptop, you can add a basic stereo USB sound card for the headphone output. Your computer's built-in sound card will be used for the master output and the USB card for your headphones (Plug your headphones into the USB card.)
(3) You can use the sound card built into your laptop and the mono split option, however this will only give you MONO sound. You will need a splitter cable to split the left/right channels - Please search Google for: 3.5 jack splitter to mono
For more advanced sound configuration such as using two sound cards or multi-channel external DJ sound cards, you will need to purchase a VirtualDJ product such as VirtualDJ Basic or the full Professional: http://www.virtualdj.com/products/comparison.html
Advanced sound configuration and other Pro features such as MIDI controllers can be tried out for 10 minutes at a time, after which the software will revert back to free limited.
NOTE: Home FREE is for non-commercial use only. It cannot be used for DJ gigs where you are being paid.

Thanks for the reply . I am using on a regular desktop with stereo speakers and a sub woofer. Its on board sound so not sure if it is 5.1 etc...will have to check that. I have the headphone outputs in front and rear and will try and hook it up.
The thing was when I went to the config audio and selected the headphone option it would not allow me to apply...said I needed another version..
Anyway will go back and try
As for playing for money, no chance of that...this grandpa is just doing it for home amusement...

Most recent desktops will usually have a 5.1 card even if you don't actually have 5.1 speakers connected.
You should see outputs on the back of the PC for front, rear and centre/subwoofer speakers. There are also normally inputs for connecting a Mic and/or line input.
NOTE: You cannot use the dedicated headphone sockets on the PC - These are not independent and will output the same audio signal to your speakers.
If the PC only has a stereo sound card built-in, then you can add a USB stereo sound card for your headphones. Seach Google for: stereo usb sound card
Here is an example: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/7965916/Stereo-USB-Sound-Card-Audio-Adapter/Product.html?_%24ja=tsid:11518|cat:7965916|prd:7965916

Simply plug your stereo speakers into the front speaker output socket (They are probably already connected to this) and your headphones into the rear speaker output socket.
Then choose the 5.1 sound card option in VirtualDJ.

Yes thanks I got it working now...I also located the advanced sound options and was able to set up a plantronics USB headphone for monitoring.
May purchase the next version up. Thinking of putting it on the laptop and running through the home stereo. But thats for later
Really nice program for my home needs
Thanks again for the time and help

I have the Virtual DJ Home Free Edition. I am thinking about upgrading because I noticed when I cue up lets say deck 1 and play it out I can't listen to deck 2 through my headphones without playing it live also. I have the program on my MacBook Pro and running it straight into my DJM 800 mixer on channel 3. Is there a way to split up each deck when cuing so the sound from one deck is playing out, and I can hear the other in my headphones but not through the speakers, or do I have to upgrade? Thanks in advanced DJ peeps:)
