Hi guys...wonder if someone can help me please?

I use one of these mixing desks for my karaoke setup.

Last week i tried to hook up two seperate outputs from my gig rigto channel 5/6 and 7/8 to give me left and right decks through VDJ. I usually only use one output from my sony vaio and just use one channel on the mixer.

Anyway, what i noticed is that on one of the channels, whenever i pressed the level button (underneath the stereo inputs for channels 5/6 - 11/12, the sound would get louder which is fine but the output on that channel would crackle like mad. I tried different cables but seem to have narrowed it down to my soundcard.

My VDJ is set to external mixer, 4.1 card. My onboard soundcard has three jack sockets, pink, green and blue. I use green for channel 1 and blue for channel 2 and in windows my speakers are set to quadrophonic speakers.

It only seems to be the blue (channel 2) output that crackles with this mixer when i press the level switch, so i'm guessing i've got something set wrong on the machine with VDJ on it.

Can anybody tell me what i'm doing wrong? I'm sure it's something simple but it's getting to me now...:o(

Oh...this happens in any of the channels i try...and i've also tried different cables and stuff too. In fact, i've tried different computers and seem to be getting the same result!!! So i guess it's something to do with my audio settings in windows...NOT VDJ.

Much obliged...keep spinnin'...(",)

OK, let's start from the bottom, and work our way up.

What soundcard are you using?

Did You try another set of cables? (both USB and audio)

Did you check your system in the Windows sound config menu (I discovered once for some reason my PCs balance was off by 20% for some reason)

I use a Behringer Xenix 1204USB for recording my podcast and have yet to experience anything like your describing. So, let's work this issue. When troubleshooting I was taught to K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid). The implication is don't jump past an easy fix... ;^)

Hi Tearemup...:o)

OK...sound is onboard sound. MB is an AsRock N68-GS with VIA HD Audio.

I have used different cables but there are no USB connections on my particular mixer. Exact model is the Eurorack UB1622FX-PRO.

I use Y split cables with one PC jack on one end and two jacks on the other end into left/right inputs of one channel on the mixing desk. One for each channel.

As far as i know the balance is fine.

This is what i don't understand. Whichever channel i'm using on the mixer, whichever cable i've got plugged into the blue jack on the back of my computer, as soon as i press the little level button on the mixer channel, it starts to distort something awful.

Doesn't do it on single output from pc, but certainly does on output to external mixer.

It's gotta be something simple!!!

The blue output of your sound card is used for line in. In case you want to use it as rear speakers (as you should, in order to use an external mixer) you have to change this, into the sound's card configuration setup. Have you done this? If your sound card configurations is correct then playing with Winamp you should hear the sound from both green and blue output.

As far as I know, my blue is set to line out. That's what i'm saying...i do get two outputs, but when i press this level button on the mixer, the blue channel gets all distorted. There's already sound coming out of it, so it must already be set to line out?

I think!!!

Since the sound of the blue output comes out distored, this means that its not properly installed as output. Check your sound card options again.
Do you get sound from the blue output from a different software like Winamp or Windows Media Player?

Ok...that seems to be it. I can't get any audio out from the blue jack through WMP...so i guess i need to reconfigure my settings.

Any ideas on what i should be looking at?

Cheers...(",)

Much obliged...(",)

Basically (by default) when you plug something in those outputs it prompts you and asks you what device have you plugged in. If you have this option disabled, then you have to look in to your sound card configuration. Rightclick on the sound icon (bottom right corner) and search there. Cant help you more. We dont use the same S.Card.

Make sure that your sound card is capable to work in 4.1 or 5.1 mode. Some older S.cards are not.

Guys...please can somebody help me before i go out of my mind??!!!?

I've got two systems going. One a machine i use for all home stuff, work, internet, etc etc etc and one i've just built with windows 7 and fairly decent spec.

Both machines use realtek onboard audio...yet both a producing different results!!! I've been at it for hours and it's driving me nuts! The softwares are the same and VDJ is set the same, as are speaker settings on the comps.

One machine has 7 with SP1 and the other has Vista HP with SP2.

7 has 3 gb ram, vista has 2. both are quad core amd chips (vista 1.8, 7 3.0ghz)

I'm sure you get where i'm going with this. One is pretty good, the other is the furthest thing from a gig machine.

Anyway...the one that's not used for gigging is working fine from a sound point of view. I'm testing both machines using a single output ffrom the GREEN output from my onboard sound card into the mixing desk illustrated above. The house machine is crystal clear when i press the level button mentioned above but the 7 mnachine is crackling and distorting.

I get that there's an issue with installation. But...isn't green output from onboard sound front speakers by default?

Why are the two systems running so differently when the software is setup exactly the same? I've tried different drivers on 7 but nothing seems to be fixing it. Without the level button pressed the output is too low but with it pressed it's all distorted. I know i'm doing something wrong but for the love of god (!!!) i cannot work this out.

If anyone has a spare bit of time with access to skype or something can you please give me a holler. It's doing my head in and i'm a wee bit close to lobbing 7 out the window,...:o(

Please guys...somebody must know something!!!!

Cheers...and keep spinnin'...(",)
