Topic: the most painfull part of djing ive ever encountered - Page: 1

由于该帖子的部分内容已年深日久,可能包含陈旧过时或描述错误的信息。

not physically you understand, but ive just hit the all time top of the pops for things going terribly wrong...

so yesterday i was playing around with a few new ideas when i heard this clicking noise... diddnt think much of it because i'd hurd it before and i thought it was just my case fan...well next thing you know the computer freezes up and i had to manually restart it (by pressing the reset button)..

the computer booted back up and the clicking was worse than ever.. upon windows loading i discovered my music drive wasnt listed. soooo i rebooted again thinking it was just a bad boot due to the manual reset.

well cut a long story short, i just lost 410gig of music that ive clollected over the last 5 year.. i had no back up and none stored on disc... my hdd is completely fubard.. the only way im getting back my collection is by either paying £500 for the recovery or pay for and dl it all again..

to top it all off, my hdd is still under warenty.. so i will get a replacement, but, i still dont get back my data..

now to give an idea of how peed off i am, i walked very calmly out of the room and made some food...because if i diddnt my entire computer and dj setup would have been in pieces in the front garden and i would be paying for a new window..

Oh man, not having your stuff backed up is like driving your car with no insurance! one day, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week but one day you might just have an accident, your fault or not, either way your fuc*ed. What were you thinking of? I seem to remember you saying before that u had a day job, just as well!

Sorry to hear that, but not backing up your OS and music drives is stupidity. Lesson learned!

thing is, i bought my 1tb hdd 3 days before christmas and transfered everything onto it. the plan was to buy another tb hdd and back up..no way did i expect it to fail so soon.. the manufacturer wont even transfer my data onto the replacement drive..

What brand is the hard drive? I wouldn't be surprised if you say Seagate...

yup, thats exactly what it was.. a maxtor one.. but seagate all the same..suprisingly enough my main drive for my os and software is also maxtor and its been running good for ages now... my plan is to have my hdd replaced and sell the new one to go towards getting an external.. im sure ebay can get me 40 or 50 spondooliies for it..

Iomega ALL THE WAY Have (4) 1tb. each one has 3 usb ports in the back LOVE THEM!!!!

I have a maxtor and its been great

iomega you say???

anyone else got any suggestions..

All drives fail.
Seagates have been excellent for me, my pattern was with Maxtor.
You'll hear stories about them all no doubt.

One common cause is people run them too long.
Every two years I replace mine, they are usually getting full anyway and they make great back up copy as they rotate out of my system.

Couldn't agree more...

there are some really good online backup services now you can get for cheap. Nothing better then a off site cloud based backup :)

Same here... never have a drive more than 2 yrs old.

Spend the few extra bucks and invest in an enterprise drive. They are rated for high vibration environments. I have never had one fail yet. Also, laptop drives are more prone to failure due to abuse and heat.

I know the feeling. I was running only one external HD and I thought I lost it. But it came back to life. That's when I bought another external HD and use the one that craped out as my back up.

thats the thing though.. you guys have been running maxtor and seagate for 2 years with no problems, this drive has been runing for no more than 1 month.. not good, the manufacturer wont even recover the data and the drive failed within a month... i understand that all drives fail but, not in the firs 4 weeks.

i use western digital drives myself i've got a 1tb and a 1.5tb and they have been great so far but i also have a nas (network attached storage) which has 2 1tb drives in it i simply back up all my music/video/karaoke on to that so it's away from my main pc

Same here I use western Digital 1.5tb 320g 149g all are great. Try not to keep them plugged in all the time that should also save the life on the little bitty motor thats inside of the case :)....

Ahh dude...Sorry to hear. I lost about 60 gig worth of music, so I understand. One thing I am in the habit of doing is not only backing up but burning CDs as well.

Unlucky man! Same thing happened to me a few years ago, no backup, lost the lot. An expensive lesson well learned - I now use Western Digital Caviar drives for gigging with, plus a cheapie external usb drive at home as a backup, which gets updated every couple of weeks or so. As somebody said earlier, any drive has a finite lifespan, I also tend to replace 'em after a couple of years use. Unlucky that your new one fell over so soon though, I feel your pain....
