Can someone please tell me how to set the balance of each channel. In a nutshell, I'd like to make the left channel of a particular track a little louder and can't seem to find any reference for controlling it in the user manual or by opening menus.

You can use the action master_balance to adjust the master balance.
Some custom skins may have a knob/slider for this.
It can also be assigned to keyboard shortcuts or a knob on a MIDI controller, e.g:
master_balance 50% will set it to the centre position (Normal.)
master_balance 60% will set it slightly to the right, making the left channel quieter.
