To all of my VJ's out there, I'm looking for some software that will allow me to make a slideshow of pictures for a gig that I have coming up. I plan on using my MacBook for the audio and then was going to use my personal laptop to broadcast a slideshow of the birthday girl to my plasmas. I saw this done at a party I was at last weekend and it looked amazing and very professional. My everyday laptop is a dell with windows vista. Any suggestions?

There are several good programs out there that will make professional looking slideshows. I've used, Nero, ProShow Gold, and Roxio Creator. Of these three programs I prefer Roxio Creator, it has a ton of features (including making slideshows.) My version is a couple of years old, I'm sure the updated software is probably even better.

A quick comment about Prohow Gold (Photodex Corporation) I purchased this program for about $80 dollars and shortly afterwards the company updated the software. They sent me a promotional E-mail offering me the newer version with a whopping $10.00 dollars off coupon for the update. (They wanted $70.00 more dollars for the update)
I basically told them to KISS OFF, and NO THANKS. Although it's good software I can't recommend it for this reason. (Compare that with ATOMIX who's been giving all registered users FREE UPDATES for years)
There IS no comparison.

why not use the vdj slideshow plug-in along with the random effect video transition? combine that with the text2d or sbdj scrolltext, and you have a slideshow thats customizable on the fly. as long as the picture files arent memory hogs (would make an older system a little balky)all you would have to do is have it running with the delay set to your preference.

Country, there's nothing wrong with the VDJ plug-in and the price is certainly right but it doesn't offer the flexibility or professional results as would a stand alone program. With these programs you can create video files using a multitude of formats, everything from high quality Mpeg2 to Mpeg4 and everything else in-between. You could also give the slideshow to the person(s) it was created for or post it on a website etc.
I played around with the VDJ plug-in and had some trouble with it stretching photos out of proportion and it was somewhat time consuming trying to get the photos the correct size for proper display. Again it's a nice plug-in to have but depending on how professional you want to go it doesn't have all the bells and whistles one might want.
I put this example together in about 5 minutes for a demo of the effects available. (Grabbed a bunch of my animal friend photos just to have something to display) You can also add text to the photos with a lot of nice special effects which I didn't do here but the option is available.

Dj Renee, Thanks for the help. I'm probably going to go with the Roxio software. Thanks again for the help!

There's a fix for that :)

Scott if you can direct me to the "fix" I would appreciate it, I do like having the plug-in as well but it was stretching my head and boobs which are BIG ENOUGH as it is....
Thanks :^)
Thanks :^)

There's a nicely improved version in the works - and I'm working on transitions other than the simple fade effect.

Thanks Renee, I hope so too - although recent events don't point to that being the case :(
