Topic: What do you think of this lighting???

What do you guys think of this? So far I got 2 intimidators 1.0 and the derby x. So do you guys think with this light setup I could do all types of parties?

That setup is excellent. You could do virtually any type of Party with that.

It is also scale-able - you can remove a couple lights as necessary.
 
If your planning a good light setup try to go with lights that are DMX and can link to each other. I wouldnt just buy the single lights shown in your picture, get sets of 2 or 4 that can link up together the effect is alot better. If they are available in LED lights thats better also as it uses alot less power and the globes will last thousands of hours. The only issue with LED is it might not be as bright but most times thats only going to matter if your lights are going to be installed up on a very high ceiling.

Actually almost all of the lights he has pictured there are DMX enabled.

The Chauvet imtimitadors - DMX
The Derby X - DMX
The Mushroom LED - DMX
The Vue 3? - DMX
the SWARM - DMX

If he buys all those fixtures from Chauvet - they are all DMX enabled.
DMX is not the Great thing I used to think it was. at least when it comes to Mobile DJ applications. For mobile DJ - DMX really doesn't offer any advantage that a relay pack can't do.

For the intimidators he can have a very cool lightshow with simply running the DMX cable between the four of them - placing them in master/slave mode to sync them all up and then plugging them into a relay pack to turn them on.

Now If he was doing a touring rock show that had the Identicle set-up every venue.... Then DMX is an absolute must. I can remember when Martin first came out with ROBO-SCAN's for theatre applications. The MArtin tech (they wern't sold back then - only leased) almost 25 hours just learning how to program them so that they could follow a figure skater as she skated.
 
I have DMX lights but I'm not controlling them that way. I don't even own a DMX controller unit or software & dongle. I am strictly using a Elation CoPilot III while my lights are sound-active, that's it. I get many compliments on my show so don't be misled to believe that you have to own DMX, it's nice but not necessary.


...and to answer your question, yes, these lights will make for a very nice show. You may want to consider adding a couple of strobes and a UV wash and fog where you can use it...

i'm withrude on that, very rare i link my dmx stuff up and they still give off a good show.
 
Yeah I didnt mean for DMX controller, just for master/slave mode they work well together so that people even think you have them controlled.

Just to note, I have had problems with the mushroom lights. Have owned two and both have had the fuse blown quickly and the mechanics break down also, but it was probably a different company. You can see one in my pic <--- :) Yes I know also that having it behind me isnt a good idea, just no other space at that pub. That didnt matter though because I really didnt like the lighting effect it gave. Just a personal opinion, all the rest look good.
 
Got to be careful with this cheap stuff, you might be happier buying less lights but better quality eg Abstract or Martin. I know I've always felt cheated when I've bought cheap. Just trying to save you money because once you've bought the stuff your stuck with it as stuff like this doesn't really have a resale value in fact I've struggled to give it away before now!
 
You have enuff for most shows you will do.

Those are good lights but they look better with fog. The fog gives the impression of lasers or beams of light (Cool Effect).

The only thing I have seen wrong with these kind of lights is that they tend to brighten the room too much. They cast light very well. Almost too well. You can turn a dark room very bright with these lights. Again, this is where the fog machine comes in handy. Only problem with that is some clubs and halls do not allow fog machines because they can set off the smoke detectors.

Sometimes it's better to not have so much light. That way you can't see how unattractive the woman really are. lol
 
Fog machines are old hat, haze machines are the way forward. This is my small setup.

Thanks alot you guys...and um one of you said that I should rather but more expensive quality lights? Well i would but I'm barely starting out and i just don't have enough money to buy less for more quality. So for a while...okay maybe for some time i want to try out these lights out...i mean there still pretty good...and also someone said they had problems with the mushrooms? were they chauvet and led??

So over all this is a good light setup right? ...and chauvet is decent quality for the cost right? btw i have foggers and strobs already:)

hey scribe, everyone buys what they can afford at the time, no harm in that, if you and your punters are happy that's all that matters, move onto the other stuff when and if it suits you.

True Tayla I mean I need to start somewhere and I've been saving up for a while, since I just started to actually have more gigs and I need to upgrade from all my old stuff like the old double derby etc. btw you guys been a great help...I'm barley 16 and wow with your help I really have succeeded...THANKS VDJ
 
your doing a great job for a guy nearly sixteen with the show you've got, an inspiration for all the other guys coming through the ranks, best of luck to you... always understand advice (don't have to follow it, lol) and remember where you started out.
 
It's ok, I used to hire my lights when i first started out becuse we didn't have all this stuff that was made in china or any of the other places back then it was all either US or UK. Watch out for the mushrooms as they break easerly when transported as they tend to be made of plastic and are better suited to installs.

A lot of the time I just go out woth four 250w moonflowers and it's more than enough.

What appear to be greens on that vid are actually RGY's, video doesn't pick red up too well for some reason, here's a better view :-



There is also a nebula laser there putting patterns on the ceiling but the 2 main ones in the above vids are Ares II RGY lasers, I have a contact in UK for lasers who ships worldwide, these are the Ares II
