The Xponent is not a Pro controller.. Its a nice controller but not pro. There is a difference between something that pro and something thats not. The NS7 is a better system.
"Professional" or "pro" in this industry is relative... For some, virtual dj is "professional" for others, it's not... For some serato is "professional" for others it's not... it's all relative... I use my xponent and play alongside very big sound systems using cdjs etc.. but at the end of the day, it is he who gets the dancefloor moving who gets the props....

If going to a laptop/pc based system, you choose the software you want and then you look at what hardware you have to choose from. You don't pick the hardware and then expect the software to use it.
The power behind a laptop/pc based system is the Software. The hardware is used to enhave the software expeirence.
Any other approach and you are just asking for trouble.... Which makes this whole thread ironic that you would post in the VDJ forum which two NON VDJ devices you should purchase. :) Neither are on the Products/Hardware pages. There are plenty of folk who try to make hardware for other software packages work with VDJ. Some of them are quite successful, others find they are way in over their head.
You want evidence? Go to DJTechTools.com and check out how that guy DJ's. There is a video of how he sets up... He swears by tractor but uses a MIDI Keyboard to control the software!! Lol I would find that setup to be VERY unfomfortable to work with... But that guy loves it! He choose the software and then found the hardware that was compatible with all the bells and whstles needed. Basically.... He needed buttons. :)
My suggestion is if you want to use VDJ, shop for the hardware that works with your Laptop/PC, OS, and your style of mixing you do. There are all kinds.... Time code CD or Vinyl, all in 1 solutions from Vestax/Numarl/hercules, and a number of rack and table top solutions and sound cards.
Now that is said.... Keep in mind some people will draw the line of 'professional' at sturdiness vs usefullness alone. Some will say the total control and xponent are 'toys' because they are plastic and are subject to less punishment than say the metal casings of the Numarl OMNI, Stealth, and NS7... Or the Vestax VCI100_ or the Hercules Steele and RMX. If you are the kind of DJ that 'throws' his stuff in the bag after a gig to head to the after hours party rather than carefully pack up and go.... You may want to consider something more sturdy.

a MARATHON FLIGHT Case is hot. I have been playing more with my Xponent because I just don't want to take all this

I hear you audio. I have a VCI 300 myself. I bought it for small parties. The bigger setup, i use it for weddings, big events, etc. Im not going to take anything away from the Xponent.. Its a way better controller than a hercules RMX. There could be a debate between the Xponent and the VCI 300.

Agreed.....Xponent and VCI-300 are more comparable based on the size of the units (hercules rmx and xponent should not be used in the same sentence!...lol)... The ns7 is a really sweet piece of hardware and is a notch above the xponent and the VCI-300...in quality and in price....

I don't think there's anything wrong with the way the Xponent looks and it's plenty heavy. And it's very functional. The only thing "unprofessional" about it is the durability.
Torq 2 is far more unstable and poor sound quality (jitter issue?) than VDJ 7. Sounds very processed and hyped, even though it tests in Rightmark about the same. I can do a lot more with VDJ and it's much easier to configure. It also sounds more neutral with the even-darker-sounding Xponent. Traktor's even too warm a tone for the Xponent, even though that one's clearly the sonic king with better pro interfaces.
I hope Avid improves Torq, because while I think the Xponent's durability is lacking and I totally dislike what's going on with Torq 2, I did buy the dang thing (Torq and his crappy dedicated laptop) from a dude named Ralph on campus. So, you know. You don't want it be crap forever if you paid money for it.
