hey there guys heres the situation. the club im at is slowly dying and the parent company refuses to spend a penny (gotta love our current finacal climate!) we currently trade thurs sat sun playing RNB (its what the venues known for) we opened a friday for two weeks but was ordered to shut it down on the grounds of too much expenditure by the parent company. it didnt help that we were the only venue open on the street. thursdays are ok saturdays are dying and sundays have a good base crowd and is slowly increasing. me and the gaffa have been banging our heads together to try and come up with some ideas for one off events to try and bring the people actually on the street. so far weve come up with a school disco style event, Mardi gra. or something similar.
any ideas would be greatly apreciated!

`tell you what always goes down well, FOAM PARTY'S. grab a foam machine and a shit load of free bikinis for the women. dedicate a small room to a changing room and have a store everyones clothes in large jiffi bags clearly labled behind the bar or reception and write the bag number on everyones forehead with a security pen as a gimik, you could always give out security pens too as they react to UV light so people will draw all over one another. just watch the punters role in when you advertise a foam party with free bikinis for the ladys.
even if the women dont decide to turn up or get changed just imagine the amount of guys who will pile into the club to see a ton of women in their free bikinis. :D
if spending money is a problem then do say $10-20 entry fee and free drinks all night then use cheap booze, a club i used to goto regular did £10 in free drinks all night on a friday. the club used to have cues round to the next street just waiting to get in, once the doorstaff saw some one that had clearly had enough they hauld his/her ass out and let in some more. plus you would be surprised as to how fast people turn to drinking water, alcohol in moderation is none existant when its supposedly free. people just abuse it and end up totally screwed within the first couple of hou8rs and go home thus giving the club a quick turn around.
say a bottle of vodka costs $10 now thats enough to total anyone, some guy/gal comes in pays $10-30 for free all night drinks and abuses it, now they wont drink as much as what they think they can, after all we all know just how hard alcohol hits you when you get greedy and drink too fast.

well it's quite evident the music has got to change, if the club is known for rnb and the numbers aren't coming through the door the music policy has to change, try an only 70s - 80s - 90s night or a mix bag of music chart dance etc but anyway you look at it its got to change.
ask your customers what they would like is the simplest solution here, look at what the other venues are doing to get them in and quite simply follow there lead but do it better, if you use screens pm me i have a great marketing tool that may help.
as for getting your customers boozed up this will not go down kindly with the local constabulary when all the drink fuelled fights start breaking out and ambulances are called to take customers to the local a&e so i would stay well clear of that. you don't want to be losing customers because the place has a reputation of fighting in and around it's doors.

strange you mention the A&E and police, there is usually very little trouble around here but there is a massive police presence and a whole heap of door staff. you are right about the music though, IBIZA nights go down really well as a special event and we also have nights where guset dj's are invited from local radio stations for them to do a set. "obv not the daytime dj's" lol.
if your club has a rep for R n B why not run a tallent competition where mc's and/or singers from the crowd can get on stage and show off their skills. just have a stupid prize like a t shirt and a bottle of wine, or run it for a few weeks and have them compete through several legs of contest, pop/american idol style... no need for big prizes people will do it just for fun.
there are a million and one ways to attract a crowd you just gotta cater for the crowd you already have and step up your game. a club playing the same stuff every week on the same night gets a little boring and repetitive after a while, so sticikng in a surprise show or party games on the night should get them back into the swing of things.
actually now i mention party games whats that track called???????????/hhhhmmmm??????????? ah thats it "oops upside your head" lol that song used to be played in one of out clubs and everyone sat in a row on the floor and done this weird dance type thing, there was rows of like 50-60 people all lined up and the row with the best coordination all got a freebie, a drink, a whistle, a glowstick or anything else stupid that people love on a night out. or have a choice of all 3 and let people choose. man i love the good old days.. :D

Am sorry you can try all the 1 off's you like but if the music is gonna be the same it dont matter what you try buddy!!
How about tryin something like Shagtag Sunday advertise the Shagtag but at the bottom of the flyer clearly state that the music will be Different as well. That way your goin to get a totally different crowd for 2 reasons.

cheers for the ideas guys. keep em cumming. the night isnt going to have any restrictions on the music so different genres are fine. but its getting the carrot that will get them in that where struggling with. currently licensing are clamping down on promotions in the area (90p drinks on a friday is just asking for trouble!) currently we have offers that have been very well recieved. The rnb is played by several other djs myself included (these guys are Really good at what they do!) ive already had that converstion with the gaffa about changing the policy! foam party is a no go (gutted really. ive done a few in my time weeling a "Strong" foam cannon up and down using an old 12" on the front to get height!)we've even been looking at getting a bus to ship people in from other areas.

honestly any promotion involving females is going to probably bring your "body count" up. do you have any like "ladies in free before X:XX time" or anything like that? try one of those. guys will turn out just for the chance of there being more women. also, do something like a dress theme (like stated before), like a "schoolgirl night" or something where the girls are dressed up like "whatever". guys all have fantasies and if there is a chance that a girl dressed like his fantasy is going to be there and maybe even go home with him....he will be there.

just kidding..though it would attract people.....try a wet T-shirt contest or stick in some topless barmaids...if the club wont allow that try caged naked dancers...TRUST...women attract punters. women also attract women, where theres women theres men, and where theres men , theres women... the trick is to lure the guys in first. the guys will usually spend more money on a night out than the female's do. women are on the prowl just as much as the guys...
