I know it may seem a bit silly to post the solution right away, but, anyway, here's the thing:
System specs:
-Windows 10 on:
-Dell Inspiron 15 7558 (8GB RAM);
-Samsung SSD (850 EVO, 480 GB...);
-No controller
I've never experienced such weird freezes before, and I immediately thought 'what systems VDJ depend on...?'
Turns out my 'explorer' process was also acting weird and freezing, whenever I clicked 'My Computer'.
So, I searched a bit, and a bit more, when finally got to this "delete some registry keys" thing.
Under:
\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Classes\\Local Settings\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Shell
Delete all "BagMRU" and "Bags" (they say not to worry, because Windows rebuilds them upon restart, and so it is...)
I had literally hundreds of keys within "Bags". They're about all gone. And so is that freezing sh==...
In the end, VDJ wasn't freezing at all. It was Windows "Exploder"...or explorer...
Hope it helps someone, someday. Cheers!

Bags and BagMRU is where windows stores folder view settings in case someone wondered
not sure how this helped unless he had a large amount of folders

I came across another situation like that. Same symptoms, different cause: it was an unresponsive cell phone connected to a PC/notebook. 🤦♂️
(Though it never happened during live events, because...precautions...)
